Hey everybody! My name is Lynn Johnson and I am the new Membership Director of TAG.
Some of you may be saying, “Hey! You’re not new. I have seen you around here before.” Well, you are right. I have been around. I have been on the Executive Committee of Teaching Artists Guild (TAG) for a few years now. In fact, I have been around since the beginning, working alongside Sabrina Klein and the rest of the founding members of the then Teaching Artists Organized. I have loved being a part of the organization committed to the professionalization of this field.
In August, we said a said good-bye to Kaitlin McGaw who had to leave us because of all of the incredible things happening with her business, Alphabet Rockers. Hooray for them! Boo Hoo for us. Kaitlin is still a very active member of TAG and am important part of this little family so…whew!
With Kaitlin leaving her position, we all decided that I would become the new Membership Director of TAG. And I am very excited about this new challenge in my life and work. After years of running my own business (which I am still doing in addition to this part-time position), I have developed a very strong belief in the power of artists who teach to…well…save the world. I really believe this. I believe that we have just the right mix of passion and skills to help co-create the world that all of us want to live in. I wrote about it here and here.
And this strong belief lies at the heart of my work as Membership Director. My big bold guiding question for my time here at TAG is:
How do we mobilize Teaching Artists to make a collective impact for social change?
Aren’t you interested in this question? Aren’t you curious about what we could do if we had the money and the solid infrastructure to come together as teaching artists?
Keep in touch and let’s figure this out together. I will be blogging here as “membership” and you can reach me at membership@teachingartistsguild.org. Also, make sure you become a member and join us at our next Membership Meeting on Sept 28.
