Southeastern Listening Tour

Two veteran Georgia teaching artists and Alternate ROOTS members, John Doyle and Jeff Mather, will be facilitating an hour long zoom on two evenings, 5 pm to 6 pm, next week. Tuesday, Feb. 22nd and Thursday, Feb. 24th. We hope that one of those two times can work for you. The zoom links for both sessions are below.

Why we hope you can part of one of these zooms:

First: TAG, by merging with the ATA, is becoming a national organization for teaching artists and is seeking to better understand the needs of teaching artists in different parts of the country. They have created thoughtful guidelines on how to facilitate listening sessions to gather your thoughts on the current state of the teaching artist field where you are and to hear what your needs, your wishes, your burning issues, may be. John Doyle and Jeff Mather will follow these guidelines to ensure that all voices are heard.

Also: The community of teaching artists in the southeast was, for many years, much more of a community. Multiple organizations supported the work of teaching artists and showcases and professional learning workshops, where we would all see each other, occurred regularly. And there were many informal gatherings as well. Things are different now and, sure, we can point to the pandemic and other factors to find some explanation but we are choosing to look forward and imagine how we want the teaching artist field in the southeast to look and feel and work in this decade, as the “roaring twenties” really get rolling. We hope that by encouraging each other to join in the conversation one of the two evenings next week we can begin rebuilding our collegial community. And also get us all on the TAG “map”, literally.
