This is a FREE workshop for educators who work with middle and high school youth in schools and in after-school spaces.
KQED wants to put your middle or high school students’ voices on the air and online. Our Perspectives Youth Media Challenge, based on the submission guidelines for the popular KQED radio program, helps create a space for students to bring their whole selves into the classroom with voice-only audio storytelling. Relatively easy to produce, a Perspectives project strengthens writing, speaking, listening and language fluency, in addition to boosting confidence and centering student voice. Select student submissions will be aired on KQED broadcasts. In this half-day workshop, hosted in-person at KQED’s newly renovated headquarters, you’ll:
- Create your own audio perspective from script to recording.
- Hear from educators who have used audio storytelling to promote deeper learning and explore tools to make audio production possible in a range of learning environments.
- Explore publishing and broadcast opportunities through KQED’s Perspectives Youth Media Challenge that can connect students to an audience beyond the classroom.
