AEP Town Hall for Local Arts Supervisors – Building Capacity for the Future of Arts Education

About this event

Building Capacity for the Future of Arts Education will be a dedicated AEP Town Hall session to discuss next steps to address the immediate teacher staffing.

The Arts Education Partnership’s Arts Ed Policy Working Group is hosting a town hall for local arts education supervisors across the country to share the work being done in communities and how national arts education service organizations can support and translate grassroots needs into nationwide policy conversations. To honor the critical role local arts education leaders play as we move into the post-pandemic era of education, the Arts Education Partnership Arts Ed Policy Working Group is excited to convene district arts education leaders from across the country for this virtual event. Together we will discuss what is being done in your communities and what needs to be done at the local and national level to ensure quality arts education is accessible to all PreK-12 students, especially those that have been historically marginalized.

Education is at a critical historical moment navigating the global pandemic and nationwide racial reckonings. The pandemic prompted revision and reflection on how educators and students engage. This moment has also shone a spotlight on inequities many have been advocating to address for years. Communities are demanding systemic change that will deliver equitable opportunities in all subject areas — including the arts.

To honor the critical role local arts education leaders play as we move into the post-pandemic era of education, the Arts Education Partnership Arts Ed Working Group is hosting virtual Town Halls to convene district arts education leaders from across the country. Together we will discuss what is being done in your communities and what needs to be done at the local and national levels to ensure quality arts education is accessible to all preK-12 students, especially those that have been historically marginalized.

We are seeking to create a network sustained by ongoing engagements to share knowledge, raise issues and collaborate to find solutions that can be implemented locally and nationally. This is a space for local arts ed supervisors, with national service organizations periodically joining to learn from local leaders and share resources.

For these Town Halls, we are inviting any local arts education supervisors — whether you are a curriculum director, district coordinator, arts department chair, or have other supervisory responsibilities in the arts education — to bring your voice to this conversation.

Together we can create a collective force across the arts education ecosystem to identify the best grassroots resources and solutions for schools seeking to support arts education. We know that important conversations are occurring within your networks and districts, and we are convening this group to learn what is happening in your communities and how we can support one another. We invite you to engage in a national conversation to connect and collaborate with art education policy experts and key arts ed service organizations.
