Data is power. Who is doing the counting, what is being counted, and why it is being counted are all aspects of data collection that historically have been used to tell stories that are not owned by communities and have been often used to cause harm. At this session, learn about new ways to collect data such as through interactive storytelling and creating visual tools with an educational and civic purpose. What are new and emerging ways to share and collect data that is owned by and empowers communities? We look forward to seeing you there!
Convening speakers include:

She is currently an Assistant Professor of Data Visualization in the Journalism Department at Emerson College. Her work focuses on interactive storytelling for social change through data visualization, grassroots storytelling, public installations, and computer-generated work. Through the power of collective storytelling, including data literacy from a maker perspective, her work explores questions related to identity, data democratization, and environmental justice within minorities of color, mainly Latine.
